Update - 15th August

Well, progress has been steady through early August and progress is becoming more obvious. On the left-hand side, the whole of the motion is now cleaned, ferricon'd and red-oxide primed. Almost all the platework below the footplate is cleaned and ferricon'd where appropriate, and a couple of draincocks (radiator) cleaned, freed up and working. Next job is to get the whole Glenn Spindler (right) from the PWRS visits May of the left-hand main frames, platework and pipework into green primer. A start was made on this on 13th August - but unfortunately the paint hadn't been mixed properly and it looks very washed-out. No need to remove it but we'll give it an additional coat to ensure evenness of finish later. There was also time to ferricon the r/h rear buffer shank and rear of the buffer head (now matching the l/h side) and also clean another couple of patches of cabside / rear paintwork down to bare metal.

We had a special visitor to the loco on 15th August, our friend Glenn Spindler from the Poulton and Wyre Railway, together with his colleague Christopher. The PWR is progressing rapidly with a complete strip-down and rebuild of their class 421 Fowler, and Glenn has shared a lot of information and guidance with us. On the 15th we were able to show him our "version", complete with detail differences from their loco, and have him answer lots of questions about how things go together. Our visitors also saw round some other departments on the railway. We wish them all the best with their loco and look forward to seeing it running!
