Update - 5th August 2012

And now, the Carnival is over... but we're back to a "yellow" timetable, and the sun's still shining... Cleaned away some of the rust and debris from around the engine to avoid too much getting into places it shouldn't, and also cleaned and ferriconed two of of the "big end" inspection covers and the base for the air compressor.  Scraped and ferriconed the "conical" part of the chimney, and also worked a bit more on cleaning up the water inlet to the exhaust jacket. What we'd thought was an injector Interior of water filteractually seems to be some sort of filter, and it's in very bad condition inside:
Worse, as mentioned last time, dismantling things on "May" is like doing a Rubik's Cube... so many things have to be done in the right order to get at stuff. I suspect the only way to actually remove the water filter is to remove the entire exhaust system, which (at the moment at least) isn't feasible. So for now just a tidy up and external clean is all we can do on this (though it's not essential to May's operation anyway).  Pencil "portrait" of May
Noticed a "passenger" sitting on the platform bench had "missed" several trains, and a closer look showed he was sketching - a portrait of "May". This shows it almost - but not quite - complete. Thank you for letting me take a look and have a chat with you - if you read this, we'd love to have a copy of the finished piece for our "B" van group base...
